Kraushaar Galleries Presents First Catalogue of Works on Paper

Kraushaar Galleries presents Black + White: A Selection of 20th Century Drawings and Prints, a 15-page catalogue of works on paper, that includes Esphyr Slobodkina’s Inner Works (collage, c.1960, 5 3/4 x 4 ½”). The publication begins with a rare Sloan drawing for The Masses, continues the modernism of Hartley and Kuniyoshi, the developments in American abstraction of Dehner and Slobodkina and concludes with a quiet Heliker wash drawing from the 1960s.

Two University of Hartford Events to Feature Caps for Sale
Hartford, CT – April 18, 2007
The University of Hartford in Connecticut will be hosting a pen pal get together on May 1-6, 2007 where students will read the Big Book version of Caps for Sale to celebrate writing together. In addition, Educational Main Street (EMS) will be hosting Read Alouds. Students from six partner schools will be bused to the Esphyr Slobodkina Urquhart Children’s Reading Room where President Harrison and others will read from Caps for Sale, other Slobodkina literature, and selected children’s literature of their choice.

This exhibition offers a chronological look at Esphyr’s art on two floors of the Slobodkina House Museum. Beginning with some of Esphyr’s early school drawings and advertisement illustrations, the show follows her development and experimentation in a variety of media. The 175 works are hung salon style. The show will run through April 2008.
