Reflects Slobodkina’s interest in synthetic cubism. Gail Stavitsky notes that this influence may be traced to visits to AE Gallatin’s Gallery of Living Art, which exhibited works by Picasso, Braque, Gris, and Leger. Slobodkina would have also seen examples of Cubist-derived canvases from her fellow Artists’ Union members (The Life and Art of Esphyr Slobodkina, Tufts University Art Gallery, 1992, p.14).
